Internal Medicine

Dr. Jose De Jesus Ruiz Romero earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Ross University in 2019. Following that, he completed a one-year rotating internship at a private specialty practice in Orange County, California. He was then accepted into a combined Small Animal Internal Medicine residency and Master's degree program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign College of Veterinary Medicine.

During his Internal Medicine training, Dr. Ruiz recognized nutrition's significant role in disease management and decided to expand his knowledge in Clinical Nutrition. He successfully completed both his Internal Medicine residency and Master's program in July 2024. In August of the same year, Dr. Ruiz began a Nutrition residency with generous support from Hill's Pet Nutrition. He is thrilled to be back in Southern California, closer to his family.

In addition to working towards becoming a Specialist in Internal Medicine and Nutrition, Dr. Ruiz aims to help canine and feline caregivers deepen their understanding of their pets’ clinical health. As a Spanish speaker, he can also serve the Spanish-speaking community.

In his free time, Dr. Ruiz and his fiancée enjoy visiting their favorite restaurant for good food and beautiful ocean views at sunset. They like watching movies at the cinema and traveling with their family. Most of all, they love spending time at home with their furry companions, Figaro and Zoe. Fun fact: Figaro and Zoe were both adopted outside the United States. Figaro is from St. Kitts and Nevis, while Zoe is from Australia!
